Ray Smith

Reggie Ray Smith, 57, passed away August 29, 2010 at Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital in Hazlehurst. Visitation will be 5pm-8pm Tuesday at New Zion Baptist Church. Services will be 10am Wednesday at New Zion Baptist Church with burial in Pine Bluff Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was a native and lifelong resident of Copiah County. He was a supervisor at Kitchens Brothers Lumber Company for 26 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Believers Bassman Fishing Club. Mr. Smith was president and longtime member of the Smith Hill Hunting Club. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church.
He is survived by wife, Donna Fuller Smith; daughters, Missy Smith Lackey (Brett) of Raymond and Nikki Smith Copeland (Nathan) of Raymond; mother, Lanell Deer Smith of Dentville; sisters, Kathy Cessna (Roy) and Kay Selman (Wayne) all of Crystal Springs; grandchildren, Clay Lackey, Fallon Copeland, Mason Copeland, and Dylan Lackey.

Lula Mae Sykes, 83, passed away August 29, 2010 at Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital in Hazlehurst. Visitation will be Monday from 5-8pm at Stringer Funeral Home in Crystal Springs. Services will be 11am Tuesday at Harmony Baptist Church with burial in Harmony Cemetery.
Mrs. Sykes was a native and lifelong resident of Copiah County. She was a lifetime member of Harmony Baptist Church. Mrs. Sykes worked for many years at the Crystal Springs Shirt Corporation before going to work at Pine Crest Guest Home her last 20 years of work.
She is survived by her husband, George Sykes, Sr.; sons, George Sykes, Jr. and Ronald Sykes, both of Crystal Springs; sisters, Faye Berry and Junerv Bailey, both of Crystal Springs and Dorothy Adams of Brandon; 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Harold MayoDavis Harold Mayo, 67, passed away Thursday, August 5, 2010. Visitation is Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Crystal Springs United Methodist Church. The funeral service is Sunday, August 8, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Crystal Springs United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Old Crystal Springs Cemetery.

Born October 31, 1942 to the late Carl Mayo and the late Norma Hull, he was the older of two children. He grew up in Meridian and was set to celebrate his 50th high school reunion in September.
He moved to Crystal Springs in 1970 and worked for Klumb Lumber before starting Magnolia Forest Products in 1972. He retired in 2006 after building the company into one of the most successful private companies in Mississippi.
Harold loved the Lord, his family, friends and dogs, Maggie and Buddy. He was a devoted husband, a caring father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Helen; daughter, Sherry Jackson (Francis) of Crystal Springs; sons, David Mayo (Sheila) of Meridian, Larry Mayo of Terry, Eddie Easterling (Tessa) of Birmingham, Ala., and Jeff Easterling (Mandi) of Madison; sister, Pat Foster of Mobile, Ala.; and his beloved grandchildren, Brooklyn Mayo, Brianna Mayo, Jessica Bridwell, Amber Jackson, Nathan Jackson, Hannah Jackson, Carson Easterling, Guy Easterling, Cassidy Easterling and Katie Easterling.

Mrs. Walters was a native and lifelong resident of Copiah County. She was a graduate of Crystal Springs High School. Mrs. Walters was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and previously taught at Gatesville Baptist Church.
She is survived by her brother, Winfred “Wimp” Hammack of Crystal Springs; sister, Frances Nash Champion of Wyndale; numerous nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
